Only 8km from Townsville, Magnetic island is a short boat trip across the sheltered waters of Cleveland Bay. Two companies offer regular scheduled services to the island. Locals affectionately refer to them as “The Ferry” and “The Barge”.
aka “The Ferry”. Getting you to paradise in about 25 minutes, Sealink offer up to 18 services a day on their high-speed catamaran’s. The last departure being mid-night on Friday’s and Saturday’s.
Car parking at the Breakwater Terminal is available for $7.50 per 24 hours.
Tickets are available online from the Sealink website, from the terminal & on-board if the terminal is closed. Tickets can also be purchased from our website in conjunction with your tour tickets.

aka “The Barge”. A more leisurely service, the Fantasea service takes about 45 minutes allowing you to slip into Island Time before your arrival. This trip offers better photo opportunities from their higher decks and air-conditioned snack bar. Fantasea operate from 6am – 6pm weekdays and 6am – 4pm on weekends. Foot passenger tickets are available on-line, at the terminal and on-board.
Free secure parking is offered for travelers at the terminal for the duration of their stay on the island.

Getting to Townsville
Townsville Airport is well serviced by Qantas, JetStar, Virgin and Tiger Air. Taxis meet every arrival and cost approximately $25 for the short 11km trip to the Ferry terminal or Barge landing.
Townsville City Shuttle also operates from the airport to major hotels and the Breakwater Ferry Terminal, costs are $10pp or $15 for a couple – Bookings are essential and can be made by Townsville City Shuttle bookings.
On the Bruce Highway, drive north from Brisbane, approximately 1350 km and from Cairns drive south, approximately 350km to Townsville. Both ferry terminals are located near to the centre of the city and easy to locate.
Queensland Rail’s The Sunlander and the Tilt Train provide regular services into Townsville from both Brisbane and Cairns.
