Itinerary

Your Forts Walking Experience

Meet & Start Point
We meet at [insert location], where your guide will introduce you to Magnetic Island, not just where you’re going, but what you’re about to discover. Before we even take a step, you’ll start to see the landscape differently.

Into the Bushland
The walk begins gently, following a well-formed track through dry tropical bushland. This is koala country but spotting them isn’t always easy. Your guide will show you what to look for… and more often than not, what others walk straight past.

Stories Along the Track
As the path winds upward, the views begin to open but it’s the stories that bring the place to life. You’ll hear how this quiet island became a strategic military site during World War II, and how thousands of soldiers once lived and worked right where you’re standing.

Wildlife Encounters
This is where the magic often happens. A koala tucked into a fork of a eucalyptus tree… wallabies darting between the rocks… birdlife calling through the canopy. Nothing staged just the island doing its thing.

Reaching the Forts
At the top, the remains of the WWII fortifications reveal themselves. Gun emplacements, observation points, and the command post — all set against one of the most spectacular backdrops in North Queensland.

But this isn’t just about what you see, it’s about understanding what happened here, and why it mattered.

The View from Above
From this vantage point, the island opens up around you: Arthur Bay, Florence Bay, the Coral Sea stretching to the horizon. It’s the kind of view that makes you stop for a moment… and just take it in.

The Walk Back
The return is relaxed and unhurried. With a different perspective on the way down, there’s often more to spot and more time to ask questions, take photos, and enjoy the experience.

End of Tour
We finish back where we started but with a completely different understanding of what you’ve just walked through.
